Marketing is a relatively new discipline. The study of marketing emerged in the early 1900s. Since this time, four fundamental concepts have developed: production, product, selling, and marketing. Philip Kotler has developed the holistic market concept to add to this list. Each concept has a historical context but is still applicable today.
